This is a position in the Labor and Employee Relations (LER) Unit in Human Resources. The LER Unit plans, negotiates, and administers ISU labor contracts. The LER Unit also consults with supervisory staff regarding performance and conduct issues for assigned employee groups.

Key Responsibilities:

Participate in comprehensive performance management program for employees, including collecting and analyzing relevant information; determining the appropriate course of action; coaching/counseling supervisors; participating in or directing investigations and (as needed) participating in or leading investigative meetings

  • Providing feedback on performance appraisals; drafting and/or editing disciplinary letters and other performance/conduct documentation; tracking activity; and collating electronic and physical documentation.
  • Participate in negotiations process, including researching bargaining history, researching language options, costing proposals, attending prep meetings, preparing bargaining materials, coordinating meetings, taking official University minutes during bargaining meetings, etc.
  • Perform contract settlement activities, including incorporating negotiated changes into the contract, obtaining signatures, printing contracts/agreements, distributing contracts/agreements, requesting associated changes to the Human Resources website, collecting and archiving electronic and physical negotiations materials, etc.
  • Participate in the grievance process, including intaking and tracking grievance activity, researching grievance history, coaching/counseling supervisors, participating in grievance meetings as hearing officer, department advocate, or consultative support (as assigned), developing grievance responses, etc.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Human Resources Administration, Management, Organizational Administration, Public Administration, Labor Relations, Business Administration, Law, or a field or concentration closely related to the position.
  2. Two (2) years (24 months) of work experience performing professional-level human resources duties (such as Employee Relations, Performance Management, Labor Relations, Employment)
